We fly into a “Blood Rage” by Guillotine Games

Blood Rage Board Game

So the worlds ending and there’s nothing you can do about it… what’re you gonna do? Curl up in a ball and cry? Well if you’re a Viking, you’re going to raise a little hell of your own and go out, axes blazing in a whirl of glory! Blood Rage is a strategy based game where you are the leader of a clan of mighty Vikings and Ragnarök has come; it is up to you to make sure it is your clan who sits in the halls of Valhalla, drinking mead with Odin and the other Norse Gods! Glory can be attained through combat with enemy clans, completing mythical quests, upgrading your clans statistics or by just plain dying gloriously!

play cards

Blood Rage is played in three rounds which are called “Ages“. At the beginning of each round, each player draws a number of differently coloured cards which are gifts from the Gods; these cards will greatly influence your actions in the game as they grant benefits such as increased Viking strength, creatures from legend such as the “Sea Serpent” to aid you or upgrades to your clan. Controlling provinces will gain your more glory as well as sending the most Vikings to Valhalla! Really, the only thing that is looked upon unfavourably is avoiding battle…but I’m assuming if you’re playing this game, then battle is not something you’re into running away from!

Once you’ve played through this game a couple of times, you’ll get the hang of how to build your strategy during the draft phase while also being able to adapt to the changing surrounding. Blood Rage began as a Kickstarter campaign and has been picked up by Guillotine Games which should help get this game into a store near you! (or grab it from amazon here) It’s surprisingly easy to learn and another neat thing that I’m seeing more and more these days; the miniatures come unpainted meaning you can give your game a unique touch if you want to. A welcome addition to any collection.
